HBE Internship Opportunities
Each year, HBE welcomes several college students for a comprehensive, paid internship program with our firm. These individuals participate in a variety of real world public accounting experiences alongside our professional staff.
The HBE Intern Experience
HBE is a leading provider of professional accounting and consulting services throughout Nebraska. Our story is one of solid growth, premier services, business diversification, and employee satisfaction.
What Makes the HBE Intern Experience Unique
- Our collaborative, team-oriented approach to client service and firm growth.
- The opportunity to learn alongside accomplished business leaders.
- Comprehensive potential for personal and professional growth.
As a member of the HBE team, you will gain real-world experience providing audit, tax, and business advisory related services. In addition, because we are a niche-based firm, you will become familiar with the many unique financial management issues that span our niche industries. The technical skills you develop as a result of working with our firm will provide you with the knowledge and understanding you need in order to make a well informed decision about which career path is best for you.
Training & Development
At HBE, we take pride in our commitment to providing excellent learning and development opportunities. We recognize that traditional new-hire orientation or multi-week training programs may not be the most effective teaching method for those who are transitioning from college graduate to trusted business advisor. Therefore, from the moment you become a member of the HBE team, you will be partnered with a seasoned mentor who will provide the type of practical advice and constructive dialogue necessary for your success.
We also offer ongoing softskills training in areas such as personal marketing, stress management, client communication, and business etiquette. In addition to the hands-on technical skills you’ll develop, these training sessions are designed to support your growth into a well-rounded business professional.
More Than a Paycheck
HBE is committed to strengthening, improving, and enriching the lives of the members of our community by supporting community involvement. Nearly every staff member is actively engaged with at least one local nonprofit organization. For our full-time employees, HBE offers a comprehensive benefits package. Our professionals share in firm profitability based on contributions they make to the firm beyond merely hours worked.
New graduates and staff are offered the opportunity to purchase (at a substantially discounted price) a nationally recognized CPA review program, subsidized by the firm through an interest free loan. HBE also provides reimbursement for exam fees, paid time off to prepare for the exams, and a bonus for successfully passing the exams within two years of employment.
Busy season at HBE can be fun! Our Fun & Wellness Committee plans activities not only during tax season but throughout the year. Examples include Husker tailgate parties, golf outings, office board game tournaments, and sporting events. Enjoying work and feeling rewarded is important to our mission at HBE!
As an intern at HBE, you will have many of the same responsibilities as a full-time, first-year staff accountant. You will gain diverse, real-world experience in the areas of audit, tax, and business advisory related services while working directly with firm leaders and our clients.
Full-Time Busy Season Internships. Full-time busy season interns work exactly as a first-year staff accountant and gain exposure to many types of tax services, as well as exposure to some audit and business advisory related services. This is an ideal opportunity to get a real feel for what busy season in public accounting is all about.
Part-Time Busy Season Internships. Part-time busy season interns work on many of the basic processes involved in getting tax returns ready to prepare. These internship opportunities provide insight and exposure to many aspects of tax work during a busy season. Generally, these positions consist of approximately 12-20 hours per week from January through April 15.
If you are interested in applying for one of the internship opportunities described above, please submit your resume and cover letter through the online application.
